Cookie Policy
This page lists the cookies this website sets, explains what each one is for, and shows you how to change your mind at any time. It also explains what our booking and payment partners set inside their own windows, if you choose to open them.
Last updated: 29 August 2026
You are in control of everything on this page except the strictly necessary items.
On this page
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. Some are needed to make a site work. Others are optional, and are used to measure how a site is being used or how well advertising performs. Some technologies that are not strictly cookies — such as browser local storage — work in a similar way, and this policy covers those too.
2. Your choice
When you first visit this site you are asked whether you accept optional cookies. Nothing optional is set until you say yes.
- If you choose Reject all, no analytics or marketing tools are loaded at all. They are not merely switched off — the code is never fetched.
- If you choose Accept all, the cookies listed in sections 4 and 5 may be set.
- If you choose Manage preferences, you can accept analytics and marketing separately.
You can change your choice whenever you like using the Change your cookie settings button at the top of this page. If you turn something off, we clear the relevant cookies and reload the page so that collection stops immediately.
We ask again roughly every six months, so that a choice you made long ago does not stand forever.
3. Strictly necessary
These are required for the site to work and cannot be switched off. They do not track you and are not used for advertising.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
hss_consent_v1 |
Hearing Safe Singers | Remembers your cookie choices so we do not ask on every page. Stored in your browser's local storage, not sent to us. | 6 months |
__cf_bm |
Cloudflare | Tells human visitors apart from automated bots, so our host can keep the site available. Set by Cloudflare, who serve this website. | 30 minutes |
cf_clearance |
Cloudflare | Records that you have passed a security check, so you are not challenged repeatedly. Only set if a check is triggered. | Up to 1 year |
These Cloudflare cookies are used only for security and availability. They are not used for advertising and do not track you across other websites. See Cloudflare's cookie reference for more detail.
Two further sets of cookies are also strictly necessary, but unlike the three above they are never set unless you take a specific action: those used by our booking window when you open it (section 6), and those Stripe sets if you reach the payment step inside it (section 7). Each is described in its own section below.
4. Analytics — optional
Google Analytics tells us which pages people find useful, so we can improve the site. It is loaded only if you accept analytics cookies. We have IP anonymisation switched on, and we never send Google your name or email address.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Distinguishes one visitor from another | 2 years | |
_ga_S4430DVRHL | Maintains the session state for this specific site | 2 years |
More detail is available in Google's privacy policy. You can also install Google's browser opt-out add-on.
5. Marketing — optional
The Meta Pixel lets us see whether our Facebook and Instagram posts lead to enquiries. It is loaded only if you accept marketing cookies.
We have deliberately turned off Meta's "Advanced Matching" feature. That means no name, email address or information about your hearing is ever sent to Meta, and nothing you type into the enquiry form or the booking notes is passed on.
What is sent is limited and does not identify you: which of our pages you are viewing, that you clicked an email or phone link, that an enquiry was submitted along with the lesson format chosen, and — when a booking is made — the name of the lesson and its price. The same events go to Google Analytics if you have accepted analytics cookies.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
_fbp | Meta | Identifies a browser for advertising measurement | 3 months |
_fbc | Meta | Records the ad click that brought you here | 3 months |
More detail is available in Meta's data policy.
6. Our booking calendar
Our booking calendar is provided by Cal.com and appears only when you actively choose to open it by clicking a booking button. Because it loads solely in response to something you have asked for, and is needed to deliver the booking you requested, we treat it as strictly necessary.
Once open, Cal.com may set its own cookies inside the booking window to keep your session working — for example to hold the slot you are looking at and to carry you through the steps of the booking. These are set by Cal.com on their own domain, inside their window rather than on our pages, so we cannot list them individually here or clear them from our side; Cal.com set them under their own policy and they change as Cal.com change their product. If you want the current list, Cal.com's privacy policy is the authoritative source. None of them are used for advertising.
Where a lesson is paid for at the time of booking, the payment is taken by Stripe within that same window — see section 7 for the cookies that involves.
If you would rather not use the booking window at all, you can book by emailing hello@hearingsafesingers.com or calling 07417 475183 instead. See Cal.com's privacy policy.
7. Payments
Most lessons are paid for in person, by tapping a card or phone against our device using Stripe Tap to Pay. That happens away from this website entirely and involves no cookies at all.
If you pay when booking online, the payment step takes place inside the booking window described above, which is connected to Stripe. At that point Stripe sets the two cookies below. They exist to spot fraudulent card use, are set only once you reach the payment step, and are not used for advertising.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
__stripe_mid | Stripe | Recognises the device making a payment, to detect and prevent card fraud | 1 year |
__stripe_sid | Stripe | Links the steps of a single payment together, for the same purpose | 30 minutes |
Because these are needed to take a payment you have asked to make, and to protect you and us from fraud, we treat them as strictly necessary. We never see your card number at any point — see our privacy notice for how payments are handled, and Stripe’s privacy policy for their side of it.
8. Controlling cookies in your browser
As well as the controls on this site, every major browser lets you block or delete cookies. Blocking all cookies may stop parts of this or other websites working properly.
9. Changes to this policy
If we add or remove a tool that sets cookies, we will update this page and change the "last updated" date. If we add a new optional cookie, we will ask for your consent again.
Questions about anything here? Email hello@hearingsafesingers.com. See also our privacy notice.
